Collection: 5 and 12V Water Pumps South Africa: Important Information
Altimus distributes a range of DC water pumps that can be powered by solar panel, DC power supply and 12V batteries. Those pumps are sourced from selected suppliers and have been tested in the harsh conditions of South Africa. They are stocked in Cape Town.
12V water pumps and 5V water pumps applications
- 12V diaphragm water pumps are used for camping, off-grid living, hydroponics, aquaponics, stand-alone solar irrigation, portable car wash and spray, and light industrial applications.
- 12V water pumps with a low pressure (below 3 bar) are recommended for campers water systems, food trucks and camp showers that go through a portable gas geyser.
- 5V water pumps are often used for indoor applications (small hydroponics, aquaponics and fish tanks) connected to a 5V DC cellphone charger.
- 12V macerator pumps are used for camper vans, caravans, boats or toilet systems where there is no access to running water.
- 12V bilge pumps keep the bilge area of the boat (the lowest part of the hull) dry and prevent it from taking on excess water from rain or leaks, which can affect the boat's buoyancy, stability, and overall safety. Bilge pumps are submersible pumps that can handle water that is not entirely clean. Bilge pumps can also be used in camper vans, caravans and in light industrial applications.
- 12V submersible pumps are used in off-grid applications such as water transfer for cattle troughs, ponds, fountains and water features They can work from a car battery without an inverter, making them popular for small volume emergency water drainage.
Water pumps power supply
- Those pumps only work with DC power supply
- The 12V water pumps can be powered by basic solar systems (as simple as 1 panel + 1 solar charge controller), a 12V battery or a DC power supply
- 12V DC pumps accept a power supply effective voltage between 6V DC and 12V DC
- 5V DC pumps can be connected to a 5V DC cellphone charger
- 5V DC pumps can be operated with a power supply effective voltage between 3V DC and 6V DC
- The higher the flow, the larger the current draw: we select pumps that have a limited current draw, so they won't damage your batteries
Altimus diaphragm pumps
- Those water pumps move gases, liquids, or gas-liquid mixtures via the positive displacement of a diaphragm
- They may run dry for a short period of time
- They are reliable (no mechanical rubbing of internal parts)
- They cannot contaminate the liquid going through, as they contain no sealing or lubricating oil inside the head
